ABOUT NEW AMSTERDAM
Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map.

  5. i remember few years ago when a new cardiac thoracic surgeon arrived and wants to change the cardiac tower in the hosp that i am working with. he pushed for a well and permanent staff (from top to bottom) in the cardiac units and well screened non infectious patient in the CVICU and CardiacStepDown Unit, we were so happy. And things got better, our HCAPs scores actually went up. And few months after, admin caught up and he was fired and we are back to the same crap again.

  16. Have everyone that enters the patient room to wash their hands. Also, the maintenance need to change the water and clean rags when moping each patients room. This would stop staff infection.

  26. I'm incredibly curious how they plan to play this out. The red tape, the costs, the pay, the everything. An adventure in medical ideology. If dome right, it could lead to a transformative event in healthcare. I'm particularly interested in certain new ways of organization within the medical community. Ways to cut costs for both the clinics and hospitals as well as patients. I read about a group of clinics who charge a monthly fee, sort of a membership fee, if you will. Everything, and I mean everything minus the cost of certain scripts, is covered. Several years in and they are thriving, as are their patients. Both patient and clinic save thousands.

  28. So annoyed by the ads for this show. Sure, let's just not worry about the billing side of things. Let's run out of money and have to close our doors. Great idea ?
If you want to care for patients, you have to be able to afford that care. Nothing is free, including healthcare.
